The Challenge

Wigan & Leigh College

Wigan & Leigh College approached us looking for a brand new website, with a fresh design and a complete rebuild of their Content Management System (CMS) to encourage applications for courses and improve user interactivity with the website.

They were eager for the website to be easily navigable for both current and prospective learners, while also being a user-friendly platform for them to update and maintain internally as and when needed. The new website also had to integrate with EBS, a management system for their Student Records System.

The Approach

As EBS doesn't lend itself towards displaying rich content on the web, we set up an automated process to check EBS daily for updates and pull in the base information when a new course is found. The web admin is then notified, who uses the CMS to easily enrich the content to provide a greater user experience.

The site design was very image-led, for a contemporary and modern feel with a helpful, professional, and welcoming personality. The design, built on Concrete, was also optimised to be mobile responsive, to give a smooth and easy experience for students accessing the site and applying for courses on their phones.

Finally, our social board integrates all of the college’s social media content across the individual pages of the site. The flexible design also allowed Wigan & Leigh to populate blocks with testimonials from notable graduates and included access to portals for both current students and for parents.

The new website has proved very effective on mobile devices, with the number of application forms completed up 29% year-on-year.

Overall, the improvement in design and CMS user experience has been recognised by improvements in key metrics both on and off site.
