Tips for Great SEO Copywriting

Search engine optimisation (SEO) copywriting is all about striking a balance; ensuring that your website satisfies the needs of the search engines and the needs of visitors to your website.

To that end, you need to optimise the copy on your site for high-traffic, high-conversion keywords that are going to get your site ranking in major search engines, but you need to be careful to keep it natural and focused so that it doesn't scare off potential clients and customers.

After all, search engine robots are very important - but they don't carry credit cards.

Here are a few guidelines we always try to follow when we're writing SEO copy that works for humans as well as search engines.

1. Get Straight to the Point

You have about eight seconds to get your visitors hooked. That means no flowery prose, legalese or background waffle.

Our team of SEO copywriters like to put themselves in your visitors' shoes. They tell them what they want to know, when they want to know it, maximising the potential that your website will convert idle visitors into enquiries, sales, or both.

2. Don't Overstuff the Page with Keywords

In the early days of internet marketing website owners could game the search engines by adding the words they were targeting on a page multiple times, some people even advocated that keywords should account for a certain percentage of the total word count. It led to some very strange pages that were difficult to understand.

You're still unlikely to rank for a term in search engines unless it's on the page but be careful to keep your copy natural and focused on the end goal which is to encourage someone to take action.

3. Use Headings

We believe the use of headings (like those in Microsoft Word) is very important. Use them to give structure to the page and help your users and the search engine robots understand what your page is all about. It's them much more likely to rank for that term.

4 Convey Your Expertise

You can tell everyone how great your product is but if they don't really know anything about you why should they believe you?

Your website copy needs to convince visitors that they can trust you. It's important to share your business knowledge simply so people can understand.
