We’re delighted to announce that the first half of 2019 has seen I-COM’s clients receive a bumper crop of nominations, with three making it to the finals in a range of digital and e-commerce awards. Below, read on to discover what we did, and how we did it, to secure these nominations for United Utilities, Lanes for Drains and SafetyBuyer.
#1 The Hardship Hub
The season began in March when the North West Hardship Hub, created for United Utilities, was shortlisted for the Prolific North Technology for Good Award. The Hardship Hub was designed and built by I-COM to perform as a bespoke, one-of-a-kind online platform for debt advisors across the North West in order to help them find and share resources needed by families struggling with financial concerns.
Louise Beardmore, customer services and people director at United Utilities, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of the Hardship Hub. We’re committed to helping customers who are facing financial hardship and we know the Hardship Hub will become an invaluable resource for money advisors in the North West. I-COM has been a fantastic partner to work with throughout the process, they really listened to the specific concerns and needs of the brief, and the final product has received only high praise from users.”
I-COM attended the ceremony with United Utilities in May, and our efforts were recognised with a 'Highly Commended' vote from the judges. Find out more about the Hardship Hub here.
#2 FATBERG fighters
In April, we put forward our integrated digital marketing campaign ‘Fatberg Fighters’ for Lanes for Drains to the national Effective Digital Marketing Awards 2019 in the Most Effective Search Marketing Campaign category. Hosted by Masterclassing, it was announced the campaign, which incorporated content, PR and SEO, had been shortlisted on 20 May, and the winner will be announced in London in early July.
Lanes for Drains is no stranger to award recognition - the Fatberg Fighters campaign was also a finalist in the Best CSR Campaign category of the 2018 Northern Marketing Awards.
Michelle Ringland, head of marketing at the Lanes Group, said: “We’re delighted with the success of the Fatberg Fighters campaign, and the results more than speak for themselves. In a little less than a year, I-COM has surpassed our expectations on every level, from securing coverage and raising awareness of the company, to driving valuable, relevant traffic to the website - which has generated hugely valuable enquiries for us. Their attention to detail in every element of the campaign has been excellent and they have shown real creativity to identify such a hard-hitting and topical campaign.”

Our most recent success is for e-commerce company SafetyBuyer, which specialises in providing high-quality safety solutions for the UK’s health and safety and facilities management professionals. After applying SafetyBuyer to the inaugural MEN Tech Awards, the company has been successfully shortlisted as a finalist in the Best E-Commerce Business category, with the winner to be announced on 18 July.
Ian Rowe, Managing Director at SafetyBuyer, said: “I-COM has been truly instrumental in bringing SafetyBuyer online as well as establishing us as a key player within our industry. We operate within a highly competitive market and although I had every faith I-COM’s paid search expertise, I would not have envisioned achieving such consistent success throughout the last few years. I-COM’s activities are at the core of all our digital marketing activity and we see the team as a digital extension of our business. SafetyBuyer would not be the successful brand it is without I-COM’s support.”
