COVID-19 Update: I-COM is Open For Business As Usual

What's the Day Job?

I oversee I-COM’s digital marketing team - made up of SEO, brand marketing and paid advertising - making sure they have everything they need to do a great job for our clients and deliver a return on investment for them.

How Did You Become Head of Digital Marketing?

After eventually realising I wasn’t going to end up playing for Liverpool for a living (this still hasn’t really sunk in and Jurgen, if you’re reading this, I’m still up for it), I set my sights on a career in journalism.

At 16 I cut my teeth as the regular music columnist in the now (sadly) defunct Wirral Champion magazine, being at the same time both the youngest and worst writer for the magazine until heading off to the University of Manchester to study French & Linguistics.

After university I joined an online news agency, writing search-optimised news stories for brands across the world, before taking a position as the editor of a series of high-circulation print magazines in the higher education sector.

However, I had a particular interest in storytelling via the web, so leapt at the chance to become Head of Content at I-COM in 2013, eventually taking responsibility for digital marketing as a whole in 2015.

What Makes You Unique?

I’ve got a natural blonde streak in my hair that everyone thinks is dyed because it’s so amazing. Does that count?

If you mean about work, I think I’ve got a good natural ability to understand how brands should position themselves in the market based on their people, their personalities, their mission and their target audience. And to do it in a way that helps them stand out from the competition.

My eye for a story serves me and our clients well too - I can often find a story worth telling in places others wouldn’t think to look.
