Perhaps I should begin to introduce with myself with an “och aye the noo, where’s the buckfast and fried mars bars round these parts?” but alas, I don’t particularly look forward to coronary heart disease so young.  I am Emma, the new SEO Consultant at I-COM who went out for a walk one day in Edinburgh, stopped off for a brew in Liverpool  whilst doing a music degree,  and then somehow ended up prowling the grounds at I-COM in Manchester and decided I would quite like to stay.

In all seriousness, I actually used to work at another digital marketing company as an SEO Account Manager, (well that’s what I led them to believe anyway, I used to keep the rubber bands in the office cupboard in great order).  There I enjoyed SEOing a variety of websites from small businesses trying to get a leg up into their industry, right through to large entertainment, clothing and housing brands.

I must confess that when I was in my interview for I-COM I came out with the profound statement of “SEO is cool!”, and Tim, Managing Director of I-COM said “So tell me more why SEO is cool?” well after kicking myself under the table for blurting that out, I told Tim and Mindy (Head of SEO) that I like taking businesses which are a tiny dot in the world and making them into, well, a big dot. I also like making people really excited about their businesses by making them see the potential for their growth through the internet.

A lot of people ask me how I got from music to SEO.  It would be rude not to explain here.  Well, I had fun working in the music industry; I recorded on a number one hit album, I toured as a drummer playing for Harley Davidson Motorbikes and supported the likes of The Fun Loving Criminals and others. But in my spare time I like to produce drum 'n' bass.  How was I going to get the people to hear it? Hmmm SEO!  Then I realised that SEO actually was cool and perhaps I would like to do it “for real”.

What have I noticed about I-COM in my first few weeks? Well the people are dead nice, we have topical playlists we make on a Friday (singing is optional), we have a football team that does their best (!) and the walls are made of glass, so you can wave at people all day and... I also dare say we do a good job at digital marketing too!
