Chain tweets for the weekend...

By Adrian Berry in Social Media Marketing on Friday, February 20, 2009 @ 16:21

It doesn't take long for new social media to be spammed and Twitter is no exception - Tweeter Getter informs you that "You're About To Discover The Secrets Most People Will Never Know About How To Really Use & Profit From Twitter..."

The site goes on to say -

"So you're looking to get a massive following on twitter?

Just ONE TWEET can make it happen, but before I show you how, answer the quick question below...

Imagine you got 1 twitter follower today, and that number doubled every day for 1 month, how many followers do you think you would have? 1,000, 10,000 or 10 million. The correct answer is: Over 10 million followers!"

Now I know for fact that if this were even remotely true and you got 10 million followers in less than a month you would certainly be flying above the radar with this one and Twitter would definitely look at and shut down your account.

So great value - as you lose any genuine Twitter followers that you may already have.

Little more than a social media version of chain letters - this scheme has disaster written all over it.

By the way, a word of warning - the site even has the cheek to put a confusing 90's-style pop up on the page when you try to leave. Press "Cancel" and you get taken back to the site for a "Free" bonus which will cost you $8.95 - if you take them up on it.
